Artistry of Garry Carr

"I have been involved in carving since 1999, when I became a active member of the South Coast Wood carvers in Coquille, OR. I had some training from a master carver who was member of the group.

In 2002 at my wife's request I carved my first gourd, it came out pretty well and then I did a few more. It wasn't long until I sold a few. I found the more I worked with gourds the more fun I had. Now I prefer gourd to other forms of carving.

I specialize in art of the Native South West which has always been a passion of mine. I do however enjoy all type of topics and have been commissioned to do pieces of specific art for private clients.

Most of my works are sold at juried Art Festivals in and around the North West. I have in the past been represented by several art Galleries on he Oregon Coast. I have always enjoyed the Art Festival format as it gives me a chance to talk with the customers and explain the pieces and answer questions. This interaction is a great source of inspiration for me in my new works."

Photo of the gourds I entered in the Clark County Fair, it was kind of a last minute idea and I had just finished a new Eagle Spirit gourd. I was surprised the Judges designated me a Master Craftsman and a reserve ribbon for Best in Class. I think that means 2nd place not sure. The gourd below is the one in the picture above.

Garry's Newest Gourd, it is roughly 16 to 17 inches across (It's Hugh and Awesome)

This gourd with the Badge on it is an Urn that I made for Officer I served with during my law enforcement career.

Garry creates some beautiful art.

His attention to detail is amazing.
