I am rather new to gourds. This is my second year growing. Had four hills in 2006, 20 hills in 2007 and will probably do at least twice that number in 2008. I have four acres to play with so will see what happens.

Got into growing as a hobby just because I like to see what grows. Not an artist but really enjoy seeing what others do with gourds.

This year I had a few long handled dippers. Got them started to late so most didn't survive the frost and arbor wasn't tall enough so most have curved handles. Have approximately 40 large bushels, 40 eggs, 20 swans, 50 bottles (probable Mexican), 25 caveman clubs, 15 canteen, 30 cannon ball, 20 large kettles and a few Maranka/Dolphins just for the fun of it. Had at least 150 Pair shaped Multicolor Warties on one vine.

Still have about 50 bottles left from 2006 crop that I have just haven't gotten around to cleaning. And now that the weather is growing colder, I may not get around to them until this fall.

I'm REALLY happy with some of the big bushels. They are going to make huge bowls w/lids. Not sure what kind of design I'll come up with.... that's a lot of territory to cover !! May have to save them until I get better at this!

We put them under our deck (which is covered), where they don't get rained on, and it's easier for me to keep an eye on them in case they need turning etc. It sure worked for the "ducks" These should keep me good and busy all next year, while another new batch is growing.

My husband was not to hot on planting any again until he saw the money I was spending to buy gourds that were NOT shaped like a duck !! Now he wants to tear up the lawn and use the whole back yard to grow gourds.! He thinks our back yard is worth a fortune.

I grow hard-shell gourds in Moses Lake, Washington. I grow about 2 acres and have been doing it for about 7 years now. I do have some inventory of uncleaned gourds from the 2005 and 2006 crop that have not been picked over too much. If you are ever over this way and want to look at the "bins" let me know. Here are pictures of my field in 2006 in late August and in 2005 just after the frost.
