The Artistry of Dar Beck

Dar is an internationally known artist and award winner who sells her creations worldwide. Her work is quickly becoming recognized and sought after. Through experimentation and lessons from renowned fellow artists, Dar continually broadens her knowledge of new techniques. The materials she uses are of the highest quality and each piece of completed artwork is named, numbered, and signed.

Dar lives in College Place, WA, has two wonderful sons, a marvelous daughter-in-law, two exceptional grandsons, and as she puts it, "more animals than you can shake a stick at!"

When I was ten, I met a lady that worked with Plaster of Paris who taught me to make molds and figurines. At twelve I began teaching others. As I added to my list of crafts, it grew to include sewing, needlework, oil painting, and other media. Ideas for my art have come during extensive travels. While on vacation, I attended the Oahu Swap Meet and purchased my first gourds. Mixed-media art work is my passion. The freedom to create is a driving force in all that I do. I hope you enjoy looking at my art as much as I enjoy creating it for you.

This is such an honor to be chosen by my fellow gourders to be the First highlighted member of the brand new Washington State Gourd Society.  Over the past seven years I've wanted to see this new Society become a reality so many times.  And I think because of that, I've joined many of the other state Societies and have traveled many miles to teach classes so I could be a part of the membership at the "grassroots" level.  Finally, our time has come here in Washington State!!  How much fun is this going to be!!  What a great way for me to get involved again, as I'm just coming off a years Sabbatical from gourds.  I've been off this past year getting refreshed, rested, recovering and learning.  Learning more artzzy stuff for gourds that will be great to teach.  My On-line classes are going well and more will be added after the first of next year.  Again, thanks so much.
