The Ladies weekend at Wuertz

"Once again, the Arizona Gourd Society, along with Wuertz Farm has had a successful "Running of the Gourds", located in Casa Grande, AZ.

Myself, Dynva Todd, Patty Burke and Alana Riveira were fortunate to go to the festival and partake in classes, meet with other artists and meet up with some of our suppliers and talk about our new society and our goals. We were all pleasantly surprised how many people noticed our WSGS tote bags and t-shirts and stopped us to ask about our new state chapter. We also met with some of our newest members; Sharon Watson from Wenatchee, Shari Morley and her husband, gourd growers from Moses Lake and made contact with other folks anxious to join our chapter.

I was honored to be asked to judge the competition and found it to be a difficult task because the work by all of the artists was unbelievable. At the Saturday night dinner, I was asked to stand and speak about our state and what our goals and hopes for the future is. I spent quite a bit of time "Schmoozing" the Suppliers and Teachers, getting their opinions and picking their brains and inviting them to come to Washington in the future! They were all very receptive and looking forward to visiting us to teach classes, participate in our festival, when that happens, and to support us in anyway they can. As usual, I spent way too much money but came away with new tools, new pens, books, leather, feathers, gourds and so much more. We also picked up some goodies to bring to our Spring Meeting in April for door prizes! It truly was inspirational to be there and tip our hats to all of the folks that made this 5th annual event a huge success!"
